About the park.  .  .
The purpose of the Pooch Playground is to provide a place where our dogs can safely and legally exercise and socialize with other dogs.

Pooch Playground is Gahanna’s first public dog park.  It is a 2 acre fenced area where dogs may run off-leash.  It contains a separate fenced area for small dogs 25 pounds or less and an agility area for all dogs.  The park also has an unfenced area for off-leash play. Pooch Playground is located within Pizzurro Park on Hamilton Road just south of the 270 ramps.   MAP to Pizzurro Park:   (The dog park at the original location at Hannah Park on Clark State Rd is closed.  Be sure to visit us at the new location in Pizzurro Park.)

The new location has a paved path that runs through the large dog area making it accessible for wheelchairs.

Because this is a Gahanna City Park, it is a free park that is open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk.  It is operated and maintained by the
Gahanna Parks and Recreation Department.

A well-exercised and socialized dog is less likely to cause problems at home, will be better behaved around others, and be a better-companion for his/her owner.

A wonderful side benefit of the Pooch Playground is the opportunity it provides for dog owners to get to know one another and share valuable dog care advice.

Bring water and pickup bags for your dog.  Help us keep the park looking good by taking home empty water bottles when you leave.

Park users are responsible for cleaning up after their own dogs.

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Easter Egg Hunt on April 18, 2009, we raised more than $400 for our dog park.  These funds will be used to buy benches and other amenities for the park.

We also want to thank the individual who provided the metal water dishes in the park.  These are wonderful for the hot summer months.

NEW:  Effective 1 January 2009, dogs must be kept on a six (6) foot leash when outside of the fenced enclosure or when in the creek.

Park Updates:

Water Line:
The city is still working a plan to run water from Hamilton Rd into the dog park.   In the mean time, don't forget to bring fresh water for your dog.  The days are getting hot and dogs can overheat very quickly.

East Field:
Fencing for the east field should begin soon.  This will double the size of the large dog area.   Here is the city's initial concept plan for the park.

Water Access:
Off-leash, non-fenced water access to creek planned but no dates on completion yet.
