About the park.  .  .
The purpose of the Pooch Playground is to provide a place where our dogs can safely and legally exercise and socialize with other dogs.

The Pooch Playground is Gahanna’s public dog park.  It is a 4 acre fenced area where dogs may run off-leash.  It contains a separate fenced area for small dogs 25 pounds or less and an agility area for all dogs.  The Pooch Playground is located within Pizzurro Park on Hamilton Road just south of the 270 ramps.   MAP to Pizzurro Park:   (The dog park at the original location at Hannah Park on Clark State Rd is closed.  Be sure to visit us at the new location in Pizzurro Park.)

The new location has a paved path that runs through the large dog area making it accessible for wheelchairs.

Dogs are also permitted to swim in the creek that runs along the park.  Although this area isn't fenced, your swimming dog can have a great time here.  We share this area with people who like to fish so watch out for stray lines and hooks.

Because this is a Gahanna City Park, it is a free park that is open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk.  It is operated and maintained by the
Gahanna Parks and Recreation Department.

Pizzurro Park also has a new playground for children to use but an adult must remain in the fenced area with your dog.

Why visit a dog park?

A well-exercised and socialized dog is less likely to cause problems at home, will be better behaved around others, and be a better-companion for his/her owner.

A wonderful side benefit of the Pooch Playground is the opportunity it provides for dog owners to get to know one another and share valuable dog care advice.

Park users are responsible for cleaning up after their own dogs.  Bring pickup bags for your dog and bring extras to share with others.  If you really want to show your appreciation for having such a great dog park, help keep the bag holders throughout the park filled with extra bags.

Recent changes . . .

The east field is now open for large dogs!  Although the Parks Department has more improvements planned for this area, the extra space means that you and your dog have lots of room to run.

The drinking fountain and wash-off area have been turned off for the winter.  Make sure you bring water for your dog, and please remove empty water containers when you leave.

Thanks to your donations and contributions from the Westie Walk founders, we've ordered a new drinking fountain for the small dog area.  This should be available for use by next spring.

A split rail fence has been installed around the Playground and decorative grass has been planted between the fence line and the playground.

If you see something that is broken or needs attention,  please let the city of Gahanna know.  You can email the Parks Superintendent at:  alan.little@gahanna.gov.

NEW:  Effective 1 January 2009, dogs must be kept on a six (6) foot leash when outside of the fenced enclosure or when in the creek.
